BSF’s accused torture on two Bangladeshi in Chuadanga border

Two Bangladeshis were allegedly tortured by Indian Border Force (BSF) in a Chuadanga border.

The incident took place at Thakurpur border in Damurhuda upazila of the district on Friday night.

The victims were identified as Kadam Ali, 35, son of late Ishaq Ali of Thakurpur Bazarpara and Babu alias Kalu, 30, son of late Abdus Samad of the same area.

They victims were rushed to the Chuadanga Sadar Hospital. Kalu is undergoing treatment there while Kadam Ali was referred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated.
Relatives and locals of the victims Kadam Ali and Babu were involved in cattle smuggling. For a long time they brought cattle from India and did business.

Kalu’s accomplice Rabed Ali of the same village both Kadam and Babu were caught by BSF members on their way to enter into India at around 9pm on Friday night at the border pillar No 81. The BSF severely beat them on the spot. At one point they left the spot behind the Bangladeshis.

They were rescued and admitted to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital.

Mahabubur Rahman, a doctor at Chuadanga Sadar Hospital, said the condition of the injured Kadam Ali was critical. Three bayonet scars were found on his back. He has a wound on his right elbow and a wound on his right leg. There has been excessive bleeding from his body. He has been sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital today (Saturday) morning.

Babu’s mother Rashida Khatun informed to the journalists that Babu and Kadam went to the border on Friday night to fetch cows. She came to hospital hearing the BSF’s torture on her son.

Chuadanga-6 BGB director Mohammad Khalequzzaman said that after finding the two injured at the border, the BGB brought Babu to the Thakurpur camp for questioning where he admitted their links to cattle smuggling at the border.

The GBG official said, Babu however, avoided the issue of torture by the BSF. Since they were sick, they were rushed to the hospital. He said the matter was being investigated.
