The first shipment of ‘Fresh Nuclear Fuel’ or uranium, reached the Rooppur nuclear power plant in Pabna yesterday.

Shawkat Akbar, the project director of the power plant, emphasized that the shipment of nuclear fuel followed to international safety guidelines. And, the project site has gained global recognition as a nuclear infrastructure.
“After ensuring infrastructure, trained workforce, and equipment required by the IAEA [International Atomic Energy Agency], we got the licence for nuclear fuel import and storage,” the director added.
On October 5, there’s a possibility that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Russian President Vladimir Putin will participate in a virtual ceremony for the handover of fuel.
On Thursday, a chartered plane from Russia, transporting the shipment, touched down in Dhaka.
Subsequently, the nuclear fuel was transported to the project site, approximately 270 km away, using four lorries escorted by numerous armed forces, police, and Rab vehicles.
Officials mentioned that the Bangladesh Army diligently upheld safety protocols throughout transportation.
In order to ensure a clear roadway, regular traffic was restricted on the highway, resulting in long tailbacks that endured until the afternoon in various southern and northern districts.
