Admission in class XI now on merit

Students in Higher Secondary (Class XI) will now be admitted on the basis of merit. Educational Boards are thinking of taking online admission applications from December 8. The admission process will continue for two months. Application process and results will be published in three to four stages.
The classes will probably be started in February.
Polytechnic institutes across the country will follow the same process and classes will be started from February 7.
A proposal to start the admission process and two separate admission policies from the Inter Education Board Coordinating Committee and the Technical Education Board have been sent to the Ministry for approval.
According to source, study is running at 9181 colleges and madrasahs in higher secondary level. There are 565 public and private polytechnic institutes. Apart from this, there are seven Diploma in Commerce institutes and about 1800 class XI (Vocational, Business Management and Technology) level institutes under the Technical Board. There are 24 lakh 40 thousand 249 seats in colleges and madrasas, about 2 lakh 43 thousand in various public and private polytechnics across the country.
Besides, there are about 9 lakh seats at in class XI level under Technical Board. Out of this, 2.45 lakh seats in HSC Vocational, four lakh seats in Business Management and Technology (BMT). All together the number of seats is around 33 lakh.
This time, a total of 17 lakh 43 thousand 619 students have passed SSC in level. Even after admission of all the students, about 16 lakh seats will remain vacant.
According to sources from various education boards, even though students are studying in eleven thousand institutions. But students are interested in admission in 250 colleges. These include about 200 colleges and madrasas and 47 government polytechnic institutes, one graphics art institute and one glass and ceramics institute. Besides, there are 515 private polytechnics but only a handful of dozen institutions have the power to attract students. Diploma in Commerce 7 Institutes and BMT and Vocational institutes also admit some students.
On the contrary, this year 2 lakh 69 thousand 602 students got GPA-5 in SSC-equivalent. Besides, there are 7 lakh 36 thousand 869 students below GPA-5 but with GPA-3.5. These students are also seen running towards good institutions. As a result, a fierce competition is created every year for admission. Due to the limited number of seats in good institutes, many students apply to their preferred colleges but do not get admission despite of gaining with GPA-5.
According to the officials of the board, the inter-education board coordination committee and the technical education board have already drafted the policy for the admission of students in class XI and various diploma courses keeping in mind the result of the SSC examination.
