Today is 76th birth anniversary of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. She was born on 28 September 1947 in Tungipara in Gopalganj. She is now president of ruling Bangladesh Awami League.
She is the eldest daughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The Prime Minister is in the United States on his birthday to attend the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
In her absence, various social and cultural organizations including his party Awami League is celebrating the day in a festive atmosphere.
Sheikh Hasina is serving as the Prime Minister for the fourth time. She is the successful Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
Under her able leadership, Bangladesh is progressing in every economic index. She introduced Bangladesh as a role model to the world. She has also won the praise of world leaders for fighting terrorism and militancy.
Sheikh Hasina’s education began in a school in Tungipara. In the 1954 elections, Bangabandhu was elected as a member of the Provincial Council and brought his family to Dhaka. Then they moved to a rented house on Rajni Bose Lane in old Dhaka. She passed her secondary from Azimpur Girls’ School in 1965 and her higher secondary from Intermediate Girls’ College (now Badrunnessa Govt. Mahila Mahavidyalaya) in 1967. In the same year, she was admitted to Dhaka University in Bengali language and literature with honors and received her bachelor’s degree in 1973.
Sheikh Hasina got married to nuclear scientist Dr. Wazed Mia in 1968 with the interest of Bangabandhu. After Bangabandhu was arrested on the night of March 25, 1971 and taken to Karachi, Pakistan, the entire family was kept under house arrest in a different house in Dhaka. On July 27, 1971, Sheikh Hasina became the mother of her first child ‘Jay’ under house arrest during the liberation war in besieged Bangladesh. On December 9, 1972, a daughter, Putul, was born.
In the parliamentary elections held on December 29, 2008, the Awami League won a landslide victory with more than two-thirds of the seats. Through this victory, Sheikh Hasina was elected as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh for the second time. Later, on 5th January 2014, she won the parliamentary elections for the third time and in December 2018, he is serving as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh for the fourth time.
