Dead body of a teacher of Kushtia Islamic University was recovered on Tuesday.
Police primarily suspected that the incident was a suicide due to a family quarrel. However, the deceased father’s family claims that she was tortured.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kushtia Model Police SabbirulAlam said the body was recovered from the house of the teacher in Kamalapur area of the town around 10 am.
The deceased was identified as NurjahanParveen, 42. Her husband Nazrul Islam is an Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IU.
The couple has a 13-year-old daughter and a 4-year-old son. They were married15 years ago.
Family sources said the couple had been quarreling since the marriage. There were almost fights between them.
Several sources at the university said that at different times, both of them had taken admitted to the hospital after clash.
OC SabbirulAlam quoted the couple’s 13-year-old daughter as saying their parents had an altercation on Sunday night. During the chaos, Nzrui hit his wife in her arm and back with a bat. On Monday too, there were several times quarrels between them throughout the day.
Nurjahan goes to bed alone at night by closing the door in a room.
This morning, without getting any response from inside,the door was broken and Nurjahan’s body was found hanging on the ceiling fan.
Police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue of Kushtia General Hospital.
Kushtia General Hospital Residential Medical Officer (RMO) Ashraful Islam said a full autopsy report was not available. However, signs of injuries were found on the body.
Nurjahan’s brother Jahangir Alam alleged that she was severely beaten. Then she can do suicide over in anger.
He said his family would file a complaint with the police.
Nazrul Islam admitted to the The Paley Star that the quarrel was going on.
“She also used to hit me from time to time. But I can’t accept committing suicide,” he said.
OC SabbirulAlam said that initially it seemed like suicide. If complaint is lodged with the police station, it will be investigated.
