The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) shot a Bangladeshi dead at Kushtia’s Daulatpur border last night.
The deceased was identified as Liton Bishwas (35), son of Akbar Ali Bishwas of Bilgathua village in Daulatpur upazila.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Daulatpur Police Station Jabid Hasan confirmed the matter.
The body of the deceased has been kept at Hogalbaria Police Station in Nadia district of India, the OC said.
OC said he received a phone call from Hogalbaria Police Station of India. They also sent Liton’s photo on WhatsApp. The news was delivered to Liton’s house in Bilgathua village,” the OC said.

“No one from Liton’s family has come to the police station till the morning,” OC added.

Quoting Liton’s family, chairman of Pragpur union Parishad, Ashrafuzzaman, said that Liton used to bring goods from India and sell them in Bangladesh.

On the time, Liton was returning from India around 9pm last night. He was accompanied by some other Bangladeshis who were in the same line of work.

Ashrafuzzaman claimed that BSF opened fire at them while patrolling the Meghna border under the Hogalbaria Police Station, adjacent to the 151-6(S) border pillar.

Others fled to Bangladesh border when Liton was shot in chest.

Confirming the incident, Company Commander (Acting) of Pragpur Border Guard Bangladesh Naik Subedar Amjad Hossain, under 147 BGB Battalion, said that a formal letter has been sent to India asking for more information in this regard.
