Although Bangladesh is a high risk country for diabetes, but there is opportunity to prevent it. But we are not taking advantage of the opportunity. Huge indifference is working in our mind which is neither good for the country nor for the government or the people.
They said the government has to lead in it taking diabetes experts with side. At the same time, people of different levels have to involve.
This was stated by the speakers at a scientific seminar on diabetes in Kushtia.
Kushtia Diabetes Samity (Mujibur Rahman Memorial Hospital) organized the seminar.
Motiur Rahman Laltu, president of Kushtia Diabetes Samity presided over the seminar held at a local hotel.
Distinguished cardiologist Professor Doctor SR Khan was present as chief guest. Special guest included president of Bangladesh Diabetes Association, National Professor Dr. AK Azad Khan and Japan International Co-operation, JICA Representative Rio Jackie, Kushtia General Hospital Consultant Doctor Musa Kabir. Diabetes and endocrinologist Professor Doctor Farooq Pathan presented key-notes on the seminar.
Farooq Pathan said in his keynote said there was a time when we used to think that once we have diabetes, we have to spend the rest of our lives with diabetes and we have to count the days when diabetes-related complications occur and our lives go away. But now times have changed. Many types of medicine have been discovered. There are many ways and means as our alternative. There is ongoing research on diabetes. Therefore, people at all levels should consciously participate in the prevention of diabetes according to their ability.
General Secretary of Kushtia Diabetes Samity Mushfiqur Rahman Torlin made welcome address. Physicians, journalists and people from different walks of life were present on the occasion.
