Idols were being constructed on the occasion of upcoming Durga Puja of Hindu community vandalized in two temples in an intervals of 13 days in Kushtia.
This time it happened in Nafarkandi of Mirpur upazila and Ajoil village of Khoksa upazila.
Officials of local administration have admitted the matter so far.
Officer-in-charge of Mirpur Police Station Golam Mostafa said he went to the spot and saw that three idols had been decapitated. The other two have been partly damaged.
OC said there were no CCTV cameras. However, there was adequate lighting.
He said the mandapa was guarded by local volunteers. The volunteers, however, went home after 1: am, OC added.
Fatik Das, one of the puja organizers, said it was a permanent puja mandapa at the area. They worked there till about 1: am and went home. The incident might happened after their leaving the temple.
Kushtia District Puja Udjapon Parishad Organising Secretary Tuhin Chaki said the people of the puja mandapa came to know about the matter on Sunday morning. But they kept the matter secret for unknown reasons.
“They came to know about the matter at noon and after informing the administration, they visited there. The work of making idols was stopped there till noon. Resumed from the afternoon,” Tuhin Chaki said.
Mirour Upazila Nibarhi Officer Abdul Quader said he went to the spot.
“Police drive is on to arrest the culprits,” he said.
Meanwhile, idols were vandalised in Azoil village of Osmanpur union in Khoksa upazila of the district.
Additional Superintendent of Police Atiq Hasan confirmed the matter.
Two temples are at the village within 200 yards. Puja was celebrated at two temples.
On the morning of October 3, unknown miscreants smashed the hands and head of the two idols at one temple.
Additional Superintendent of Police Atik Hasan Thana Officer-in-Charge Syed Md Ashiqur Rahman rushed to the spot.
Chandi Kumar Biswas, president of the committee of Ajoil sorbojonin Durga Temple, said, “I take care of the temple till 3:30 am. We see the misdeed in the morning.
After information police came to the spot in the afternoon, he said.
Officer-in-charge of Khoksa Police Station OC Syed Mohammad Ashiqur Rahman said it was initially suspected that the idol was vandalized in the dark of night due to land disputes and domination over the temple site by two groups.
However, legal action will be taken after further investigation.
On September 21, miscreants vandalized idols at a puja mandapa in Aruapara of Kushtia town. Police have not yet arrested the culprits.
