A mother died within 26 hours of giving birth. She died at noon on Friday (July 30). She had been suffering with covid-19.
The name of the deceased was Rahima Khatun. She was the wife of Ashraful Alam of Azampur area of Mirpur upazila in Kushtia. She was an assistant teacher at Halsa Secondary School.
According to hospital and relative sources, Rahima had some symptoms of corona including fever. She was brought to Kushtia 250-bed Corona Dedicated Hospital on July 23. She was corona positive after sample test and admitted to the same hospital.
Tahmina Tabassum, the doctor on duty, said Rahima’s condition had deteriorated since July 24. She was kept on central oxygen support with and high flow nasal canola in most of the time.
In this condition, Rahima suddenly felt pain on her pregnancy around 10 pm on Thursday.
Immediately doctors tried to deliver the baby and Rahima gave birth a stillborn baby in a few minutes.
Doctor Tahmina told that the oxygen level in Rahima’s body was fluctuating 55-60 immediately after delivery.
Rahima died at around 12 noon on Friday.
Akramuzzaman Mintu, a medical specialist at the hospital, said it was difficult to treat pregnant women with corona. Even then Rahima was 32 weeks pregnant. Despite all efforts, she could not be saved.
