Unknown miscreants severely chopped Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Kushtia district unit president Atiqur Rahman Anik (25) and activist Roktim Ghosh (22) on Wednesday night.
The incident took place at around 10:30 pm in front of the road of Kushtia Government College.
They are undergoing treatment at Kushtia General Hospital.
Witnesses said Atiq and Roktim were going to Kushtia general hospital riding a motorcycle around 10 pm. At least 5/6 young on three motorcycles coming from the opposite direction stopped them when they reached to Kushtia Government College junction in the city,
They talked for a while. At one stage, the criminals angrily attacked the BCL president and his activist. They chopped Atkiq’s head and neck with sharp weapons, while Roktim received stabs in hand and back.
The attackers left the scene within minutes of the incident.
Locals rescued them and took them to Kushtia General Hospital.
Kushtia General Hospital Superintendent MA Momen said BCL president Atiqur Rahman Anik had four stitches on his head.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kushtia Model Police Station Sabbirul Alam admitted the fact of the attack and said that the attack took place due to an old dispute within the BCL.
He said several people have already been identified as the attackers. Police have investigated and are continuing to try to arrest them.
The OC said no one has yet lodged a written complaint in this regard.
