Kushtia people thronged to vaccination center

Eagerness has increased among the people of Kushtia to get Covid-19 vaccine. The only vaccination center in the district is becoming full of thousands of people every day.

Besides, the vaccination authorities are having a hard time to cope with the pressure of the people’s mad rush.

This correspondent made a visit at the vaccination center at Kolokakali School in the town today (Monday) and found thousands of people gathered there before the vaccination programme started. People were waiting in line for long time to get vaccinated.

“The number of people interested to be vaccinated. It basically has increased compared to the previous time,” said Anwarul Islam Civil Surgeon of Kushtia.

It is good sign, Civil Surgeon added “Specially over the Kushtia’s ongoing Corona situation.

Meanwhile, health workers are struggling much due to increasing pressure of people.

The main problem is that it is only one center for vaccination but huge people.

Many people came for vaccination complained that they are not being vaccinated in due time and were suffering. They alleged of mismanagement.

Ayesha Khatun came to get vaccinated said that more people than the center’s capacity have come. Besides, there is a lack of space, booths and health workers.

Besides, social distance is not becoming possible which is fearing the risk of corona infection.

Seeing the violation of social distance, Ataur Rahman Askari, came to Thanapara area expressed that “I can’t say whether I have come here for vaccination against Coronavirus or going home with coronavirus.”

Ataur stood in line for about two and a half hours from morning (9:am), when talked, it was 11:am. He not yet vaccinated.

“Thousands of people, but no one is following any kind of hygiene rules. Many do not even have a face mask. Another is standing in a row next to one,” Ataur observed.

However, the hospital authorities told that the presence of more people than usual is causing some chaos.

Abdul Momen, Care Taker (Deputy Director) of Corona dedicated Kushtia general hospital said a crowd of four to five thousand people. It is difficult to say who is carrying the virus. There is a risk of infection.

Kushtia Civil Surgeon HM Anwarul Islam said the fear that people had in their minds has gone away. Moreover, the age limit for vaccination has been removed. Besides, farmers, workers and lawyers are getting vaccinated by being added to the priority list this time. That is why the rush among the people has increased.

In response to a question, he further said people do not have patience. He said there are shortage of workers, booths and spaces.

“We can think to increase our capacity by increasing vaccination center, but manpower is problem here,” he said.
