Covid-19/ Death toll 23 in 72 hours, infection, critically ill patients are high in Kushtia

Twenty 23 people died in Covid-19 in Kushtia in last 72 hours. Besides, Corona detection rate has continued above 40 percent for past 48 hours. District health experts are now saying that the number of existing cases in the district is likely to continue to rise. Because the number of critically ill patients are still high (above 50) across the district. 

According to the district health department, 7 more people were died in Corna in last 24 hours. At the same time, the detection rate was 41.48 percent. In the previous 24 hours, the same 7 people were died and the detection rate was 40.05 percent. In the previous 24 hours, there were 9 deaths and the detection rate was 27.75 percent.

Abdul Momen, Deputy Director of Corona Dedicated Kushtia General Hospital, said 261 people were admitted to the 250-bed Corona unit of Kushtia General Hospital till 8:am on Saturday. The previous day it was 204 people. The day before, the number was 200.

Momen said attendance at the sample test was low due to rain throughout the day on Friday. Now there was a lot of sampling since Saturday morning.

He further said that there are 2107 people in home isolation in the district till 8 am today (Saturday). Yesterday this number was 2149 people. The day before that there were 2100 people.

According to his information, about 100 of the infected patients in different parts of the district were kept on oxygen support. Many were taking oxygen in home isolation.

District Civil Surgeon Anwarul Islam on Saturday said all those who died in 72 hours were undergoing treatment under Kushtia District Health Department.

The Chief of Health in the district has termed this increasing the number of deaths in the district as inevitable. He says this will happen where the general rules of Corona resistance were completely ignored. He said the health department had informed it earlier. Just as the administration was slow to take action and the general people also completely indifferent to obey the rules. He commented that it was possible to avoid it if people were aware.

He said there is a manpower crisis in the health department. Meanwhile, Kushtia General Hospital has been declared Corona Dedicated.

According to him, there is no other way but to deal with the current situation.

In Kushtia, total 8,282 people were infected and 225 died till Saturday morning.

Meanwhile, various individuals and organizations in the district have expressed concern over the current situation. They have seen a lack of coordination in corona management.

The larger platform of social organisations in Kushtia Sammilito Samajik Jote Chairman Dr. Amanur Aman said the six-member district corona prevention committee formed by the government is very introvert. It needed to work in light of the larger situation in the district. It would have been better if there was more coordination with the health department.

Professor SM Mustanjid, former principal of Kushtia Medical College and president of Kushtia Nagorik Committee said there were serious lacking in corona management in the district since the starting and still have. He said the coordination should be between the health administration and the civil administration; Not the health administration with the civil administration. But we are doing that again and again. Such incoherent conditions were not expected.

He said the health department was working with the highest risk. Much more cooperation was needed here.

Prominent businessman and Finance Affairs Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Kushtia district unit Ajay Sureka said there have been many disasters. We still have to use the time we have. Everyone should work together without blaming each other. Save the human life is first.

Kushtia Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Saidul Islam said there has always been and continues to be a concerted effort to prevent corona. The district administration is continuously providing support to all the needs of the health department. There is no shortage of coordination. He called on all to work together in the current troubled situation.
