The new budget has proposed to increase the price of cigarettes in the budget of 2021-22.

The Finance Minister said, “I am proposing to add a minimum price of Tk 39 per 10 sticks of cigarettes and a 56 per cent supplementary duty.” I am proposing that the price of 10 sticks of medium stage cigarettes is 63 taka and the price of 10 sticks of high stage cigarettes is tk 102.

Besides, the price of 10 stick cigarettes of premium slab is Tk 135 and in these three steps, the finance minister proposed to add 75 per cent as supplementary duty.

The Finance Minister proposed to keep the current price of 25 hand-made bidis without filters at Tk 18. There is a 30 per cent supplementary duty in each case with the price of 12 sticks at Tk 9 and 8 sticks at Tk 6.

The Finance Minister said, “I am proposing to keep the existing price of 20 filtered bidis with filters at Tk 19. And the price of 10 sticks of bidi is tk10, where in both cases 40 percent supplementary duty will remain unchanged.
