Lockdown is not clamping down on Kushtia district in this moment. The district is near the India-border and the incidence of corona is increasing.
However, it has been decided to increase the public awareness and sample test to prevent corona or Indian variety of corona.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the District Corona Prevention Committee on Tuesday (June 1).The meeting started at noon to discuss the situation in Kushtia.
The meeting was presided over by Corona Prevention Committee President also Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Saidul Islam.
The two-hour long meeting was attended by Member Secretary of the committee also Civil Surgeon of Kushtia HM Anwarul Islam, Superintendent of Police Khairul Alam, Kushtia General Hospital Superintendent Dr Abdul Momen, Residential Medical Officer (RMO) Dr Tapash Kumar Sarkar, Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman Ataur Rahman, Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) of six upazilas.
During the meeting, the Civil Surgeon said that the situation in Kushtia is not so bad. But a little extra. Such a change has happened twice before. After the Eid shopping crowd it can still be considered normal.
The health department emphasized on strict surveillance at the border to check the spreading of Indian variety of Corona.
So far 4, 0976 people have been identified in Kushtia as corona positive. In the last 4 days, 102 people have become positive. Meanwhile, a sample of 184 people tested positive in the district last Sunday and a maximum of 33 came positive in one day. This is the highest number of identities in Kushtia since the second wave of Corona. One died in Corona on that day.
In the last 24 hours, samples of 186 people tested positive and 18 people tested positive.
Total 113 people have died due to corona infection in the district till now. Three people have died in the last three days.
Kushtia General Hospital sources said it has a total of 50 beds for the corona patients under the supervision of Kushtia Medical College. There are 30 isolation beds and 20 observation beds. Till the June 1, there 34 patients were undergoing treatment.
There is a four-bed level-1 ICU unit. However, it is being converted to Level-2. It will take two weeks. There is a liquid oxygen tank here.
Kushtia General Hospital has 347 small and large cylinders. It can supply a minimum of 600 liters to a maximum of 2,000 liters of oxygen. At present 10 to 12 people are being given full time oxygen in Corona ward. The hospital has central oxygen system. There are 14 high flow nasal cannulas (HFNCs) that supply high levels of oxygen. But three are out of work.
Kushtia General Hospital Residential Medical Officer (RMO) Tapash Kumar Sarkar said five more high-flow nasal cannulas were being brought from Dhaka. In addition, if anyone wants to donate to the hospital voluntarily, that will be welcomed.
In Kushtia district, samples of 50,936 people have been tested so far and 4,965 corona positive have been identified.
According to tests in Kashtia, the rate of corona infection has increased from 15 to 19 percent.
