Police arrested a youth in a case filed against him for posting offensive posts about a lawmaker on Facebook. Court sent him jail Sunday evening.
The arrestee was identified as Rafiqul Islam of Dayrampur village of Jagannathpur union in Kumarkhali upazila in the district.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kushtia’s Kumarkhali Police station Mojibur Rahman said Rafiqul Islam, 30, was arrested from his residence at around 2: pm on Sunday (April 18) after a case was filed against him under Digital Security Act. He is a resident of the village and a CNG driver by profession.
According to case, Rafiqul shared a post on face book from the ID named Bansher Kella against Selim Altaf George, lawmaker from Kushtia-4 (Khoksa-Kumarkhali) constituency and a member of the presidium of the central committee of Awami Juba League on April 17.
Seeing the matter on Facebook, the lawmaker’s cousin Abu Saeed Johnny filed a case under Section 29 (1) / 31 (2) of the Digital Security Act 2018 on the morning of April 18.
The arrested youth was produced before the Kushtia Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on Sunday evening and the court ordered to send him jail.
