There is a lockdown situation in different parts of Kushtia town on the first day of five days countrywide lock down. But no one is following the rules correctly. Even, they don’t seem interested in following the rules

The shops are closed. However, the shop owners or employees are sitting quietly in front of or around the shop. Seeing the situation, they are also trading by opening the shutter. Some shopkeepers have seen to talk to the buyers over mobile phone. They are calling that the shop is closed but they have there. Buying and selling is possible if they come.

No action has been seen taken to implement the 18-point directive announced by the government. There are police at every turn in the town. There are also patrol police. There have been reports of some buses leaving on several routes since morning. Battery-powered rickshaws and easy bikes are running in the city as before.

Crowds of people are seen in all the raw markets including the municipal market of the city. There is no plague of social distance. Most of the people who came to the market did not have masks. They are moving around.

When asked why there is no mask on the face, one or two said the mask is in the pocket. Another said he would wear mask when saw more crowds.

However, the government office is closed.

The court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate is open only in the court area. However, strict rules are being followed there. About 20 cases have been heard till 1 pm, the employees said. Bail has also been granted in several cases.

Lawyer Rajib Ahsan Ranju told the Kushtia Times that client’s flows are low as no transport is coming to district town from upazila levels.

Lockdowns in 6 upazila of the district have been reported to be more relaxed.
