National Consumer Rights Day observed in Kushtia

Kushtia Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Saidul Islam says it is not possible to save buyers from cheating by enforcing law. If there is no awareness of the quality and laws and rights of the product, one will be deprived of its benefits. So consumers need to be aware of their rights first.

He said this while addressing a discussion on the occasion of National Consumer Rights Day 2021. This year’s theme is ‘Mujib Borshey Shopath Kori, Plastic Dushon Rodh Kori’ (Let’s swear in Mujib Borsho –Tackle Plastic Pollution).

Deputy Commissioner was the chief guest in the discussion meeting.

The day has been observed on Monday 15th March through various day-long programmes initiated by the District Administration and National Consumer Rights Protection Department, Kushtia.

On the occasion, balloons and festoons were flown at the Collectorate premises to mark the inauguration of the day and the auspicious opening of the truck show. After that, a discussion meeting on National Consumer Rights Day was held in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner at 10 am.

The deputy commissioner said there was a need for widespread publicity about the Consumer Rights Protection Act.

He said those who trade in products are also buyers themselves. So if they cheat, they will be cheated too. They also need to realize this truth.

The deputy commissioner said the district administration is working tirelessly to protect the rights of consumers. Campaigns are being carried out in every market and market.

Meetings are being held with traders before the operation, they are being warned. If it still doesn’t work, the law is being enforced.

In the chair of Deputy Director (Deputy Secretary) of Local Government Mrinal Kanti Dey, the meeting was attended among others by, Additional District Magistrate Md. Sirajul Islam, General Secretary of Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) Kushtia District Branch Nafiz Ahmed Khan Titu, Vice-President of Kushtia Chamber of Commerce SM Quadery Shakil.

Kazi Rakibul Hasan, Assistant Director, National Department of Consumer Protection, Kushtia, gave a welcome address at the discussion.
