A Kushtia youth faces dire after put info to police through 999

A Kushtia youth has faced severe attack by a gang group after he put information to police using National Emergency Service number 999 about the same gang. The youth alleged that after receiving information, police provided it to the gangs.

The young lodged a complaint to the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Kushtia in this regard. SP said a case has been taken and the matter is under investigation.

The incident took place at Faizullapur village in Juniadah area of ​​Bheramara upazila in Kushtia last Friday.

According to the written complaint, one Asadul Haque heard the sounds of three shots in the river Padma near his house in Juniadah area around 9 am on Friday. He called National Emergency Service 999. From that service he was contacted by the duty officer of Bheramara police station. The spot was under Kuchiamora police camp of Bheramara police station. Therefore, the duty officer gave the name and mobile number of Asadul to Sub-Inspector (SI) Jahangir Hossain at Kuchiamora Police Camp.

Asadul Haque, son of late Abu Bakkar was of the same area.

He mentioned in the complaint that three hours later, around 1 pm, SI Jahangir Hossain called him and said, “You are doing nonsense, I have looked for that no such incident has taken place in the area.”

The young man said that within 20/25 minutes, 8 young men stormed his house and started to abuse him. Four of them attacked him. One of them indiscriminately stabbed him. The terrorists blamed him how dare he hold to tell the police about their activities.

Hearing Asadul’s scream, some farmers working in the field near to his house rushed to the spot and rescued him. The miscreants threatened him with a pistol and fled.

In his complaint, the young man mentioned the names of 7 people. They are Alamgir, Mamun, Milon, Shakil, Rubel, Asman, Rakib and an unknown name. All of them live in different areas of Bheramara and Daulatpur upazilas in Kushtia.

Asadul said he first went to the Bheramara Upazila Health Complex for treatment. But was admitted to Kushtia General Hospital as he did not feel safe there. After treatment there, he was discharged on Saturday afternoon. He is currently at his home.

Talking to him on Sunday morning, he said that he had been approached by some senior police officials. They said they would look into the matter.

The accused SI Jahangir Hossain was contacted. He asked to find out which newspaper journalist wanted to know. He instantly cut off when he heard The Daily Star. He cuts off every time when this correspondent called. The number was later found switched off.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bheramara Police Station Shahjalal said from the spot that he had accepted Asadul’s complaint as a case on Sunday morning. The OC said three groups in Bheramara, Daulatpur and Lalpur in Natore were involved in a dispute over possession of Padma sand. He said he was looking into what had happened in his police station.

Asked about SI Jahangir Hossain, he said it was a matter of higher authority.

Kushtia Superintendent of Police Khairul Alam told that the complaint has been brought to cognizance. A case has been recorded with Bheramara police station. Senior police officials have been dispatched to the spot. The reported ‘conversation’ of the accused police officer is being examined.
