Miscreants damaged revolutionary Bagha Jatin’s sculpture in Kushtia

Miscreants this time have damaged the sculpture of Bagha Jatin, one of the revolutionary leaders against British rule in the subcontinent. The sculpture is located at Kaya village of Kumarkhali in Kushtia.

The incident is believed to have taken place at a time on Thursday night. The matter was came to sight today (Friday) morning.

Ziaul Haque Swapan, chairman of Kaya Union Parishad also general secretary of Kushtia District Awami Jubo League confirmed the incident.

He said the sculpture of Jatin was placed at Kaya College in Kaya village. It was inaugurated in 2016 by Shri Tathagata Roy, Governor of the Indian state of Tripura.

Officer-in-Charge of Kumarkhali Police Station Zahurul Islam said police has already launched drive to find the culprits behind the incident.

Although his full name is Jatindranath Mukherjee, he is known in history as Bagha Jatin. He was the architect of the anti-British armed movement in India.

Although he was born in 1879 in the present Jhenaidah district, he grew up in his grandmother’s house in Kaya village of Kumarkhali in Kushtia district.

At the age of 35, he died in 1915 while undergoing treatment for serious injuries sustained in a battle with the British police.
