The Centrally Approved Islamic University (IU) Bangabandhu Parishad has expressed its deep concern over the incident took place while paying homage at the martyrs Liberation War sculpture— Mukto Bangla of Kushtia Islamic University on December 16, the Great Victory Day.

Parishad’s President Professor Dr. Mahbubur Rahman and General Secretary Professor Dr. Mahbubul Arfin said in a statement that the incident was very unwelcome and highly reprehensible.

The leaders think that this is not an accident only happened on the day; this was the sequence of events happening since from many days.

Bangabandhu Parishad strongly believes that it was an episode in the process of nasty implementation of the previous administration’s “divide and rule” policy and with direct patronisation, it creates divisions among the various social and professional organizations protecting the interests of teachers, officials and employees which have been working in the university for a long time.

These groups have already committed innumerable misdeeds in the holy courtyard of the university. It sadly has to say that the greatest achievement of the Bengalis for thousand years is the hard earned freedom of the land and the sculpture that builds to get sprit, consciousness and feelings of Liberation War has also been tainted by the hand of these groups.

The leaders said it is a great disgrace to the Islamic University and to us as a member of the university.

Not only that, at one stage of the incident, when the Vice Chancellor of the University was discussing the situation in his office with the senior teachers of the University and the leaders of Bangabandhu Parishad, some officials stormed into the Vice Chancellor’s room and got into an argument with him. At one stage, they also threatened the teachers present there.

The Bangabandhu Parishad leaders went on that this was extreme disrespect for the university and also bows our heads as members of the university.

The war of liberation was not just the winning of an independent territory. This is the name of a feeling where the history of the birth of a nation is entail. A single drop of ink smeared on this history is absolutely intolerable.

Bangabandhu Parishad wants to make it clear that what happened in the university on that day was against the spirit of the liberation war. So every member of the university family needs to be careful about this.

The leaders urged all to take care so that such incidents do not happen in future.
