Bangabandhu’s sculpture/Two madrassa student sent to jail

A Kushtia court has ordered of sending the two madrassa students accused in vandalism of sculpture of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to jail after taking their statement under 164 today (Sunday) evening.

They are Abu Bakr Mithun, 18, and the green of Islam Nahid, 20. Both are students of Ibne Masud (r) at Jugia area of Kushtia town.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Delwar Hossain passed the order. He recorded the statement of duos at his chamber after Kushtia Model Police Station Inspector Nishikanta Sarkar handed over the accused to the court around 4pm on Sunday after ending of 5 days remand.

Earlier on Saturday, two other accused in the case, teachers of the madrassa Al-Amin and Yusuf, made confessional statements under Section 164 in the same court. They are in jail.

A police source said the accused students who carried out the misdeeds admitted the matter to the police under section 161. During the interrogation, the two said that they were inspired by the anti-sculpture statements of Maulana Mamunul Haque and Maulana Faizul Haque. They both deal with their confidence eac others and carried out the job.

In the evening, Kushtia Superintendent of Police SM Tanvir Arafath told The Daily Star in response to a question that decision would be taken on whether Maulana Mamunul Haque and Maulana Faizul Haque would be made the accused in the case subject to further investigation.
