Miscreants damaged Bangbandhu sculpture in Kushtia

The miscreants have damaged the under construction sculpture of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the intersection of panch Raster in Kushtia town. The criminals did this evil deed any time of last night.

Superintendent of Police (SP) in Kushtia SM Tanvir Arafath confirmed the matter.

He said the miscreants broke the right hand of the sculpture up to the elbow and face damaged with hammer liker matter.

The SP said those involved have already been identified. They will be brought under the law soon.

Kushtia Municipality Executive Engineer Rabiul Islam said the construction of three sculptures of Bangabandhu on the same pillar started at the intersection on October 12. There will be three sculptures side by side. The whole pillar will be at the junction of five roads.

Portraits of  four national leaders will be displayed below the sculpture. It will be built with the own funds of Kushtia Municipality. It has cost about tk 35 lakh.

Kushtia Municipality Mayor Anwar Ali said those involved in this heinous act should be severely punished. He alleges that those who have recently been protesting against the sculpture across the country have done so.
