Aly Jaker is no more

Aly Jaker, a playwright and cultural personality has defeated his fight against death. On Friday (November 26) he left early in the morning. He was 76 years old. He is survived by his wife, playwright Sara Jaker, son, playwright Iresh Jaker, daughter, radio presenter Shriya Sarvajaya and many other fans.

He was a unique person in the field of advertising in Bangladesh too. He was equally popular on the small screen and on stage. He is the best of his contemporaries.

Aly Jaker has been battling cancer for almost four years. However, sometimes he did not pay attention. He came on stage throwing cancer. He was also acting.

He was admitted to Bangladesh Specialized Hospital on November 15 after his condition deteriorated recently. He was treated at the CCU there.

Zaker was born on 6 November 1944 in Ratanpur Union, Chittagong.

He made his acting debut in Munir Chowdhury’s play ‘Kabar’ in 1972 under the direction of Mamunur Rashid on behalf of Aly Jaker’s Aranyak Natyadal. He then joined the citizen drama community in June of that year in response to calls from Ataur Rahman and Zia Haider. Where he made his acting debut in the play ‘Buro Shaliker Ghare Ron’ under the direction of Ataur Rahman.

One year, he directed for the first time in the play ‘Baki Itihas’ by Badal Sarkar.

Her plays on stage include ‘Bidogdh Ramanaikul, ‘Toilo Sankat’, ‘Ei Nishiddho Pollite Ali,  ‘Dewan Gazi’s Kissa’, ‘Sot Manusher Khonje, ‘Tempest’, ‘Nuraldin’s whole life’, ‘Galileo’.

Ali Jaker was also very popular on the television screen. He got huge popularity by acting in Humayun Ahmed’s ‘Bahubrihi’ and ‘Aaj Rabibar’. He also gained popularity by acting in solo dramas ‘Ekdin Hathat’, ‘Neetu Tomake Bhalobasi’, ‘Pathar Samay’, ‘Achinvriksh’, ‘Ice Cream’, ‘Gani Miyar Pathar’.

He has also acted in films. His performances in ‘Agami’, ‘Nadir Nam Madhumati’, ‘Lalsalu’ and ‘Rabeya’ have left a mark on people’s hearts.

Ali Jaker was a heroic freedom fighter. He was a member of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra. Was the trustee of the Liberation War Museum. In 1999, the Government of Bangladesh awarded him the Ekushey Padak, the second highest civilian honor in the country, for his contribution to the arts. He has also won the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Award, Bangabandhu Award, Munir Chowdhury Medal, Naren Biswas Medal and Meril-Prothom Alo Lifetime Achievement Award.
