Police have not been able to identify those involved in the robbery.

A case has been filed in connection with the robbery at Uthli Sonali Bank branch in Chuadanga on Sunday noon. Abu Bakkar Siddique, the bank’s manager, filed a case against unnumbered unidentified people at Jibannagar police station on Sunday night.

Police picked Enamul Haque and Anisur Rahman, clients of the bank who had gone to deposit money at the time of the incident for initial interrogation on Monday morning and released them on Monday afternoon.

Nahidul Islam, Additional Deputy Inspector General (Additional DIG Crime) of the Khulna Division of Police, who visited the bank on Sunday, said the building was not at all suitable for running any financial institution like a bank. He said that the bank authorities are extremely negligent.

He expressed his grave concern that there were no CCTV cameras in the bank.

“It is extremely unacceptable,” he said.

Khokon Chandra Biswas, general manager (in-charge) of Sonali Bank’s Faridpur GM office, said it was being investigated why the CCTV camera had not been installed yet there.

Bank manager Abu Bakkar Siddique said he was new to the branch. No initiative has been taken for CCTV cameras.

He said such branches have permission to keep up to Tk 10 lakh. He said there was no money in the bank vault.

Chuadanga Superintendent of Police Zahidul Islam said police were already working hard to nab the accused.

“We are hopeful that we will be able to arrest the accused as soon as possible time,” SP said.

The police superintendent said the bank was on the ground floor of a two-storey house in a remote area. To get there, clients have to cross some small alleyways. All this is causing problems for them.

A robbery took place at Uthli Sonali Bank branch around 1:pm on Sunday. The robbers took hostage bank officials wearing helmets and PPE at “toy pistols” and looted Tk 8, 72,900 in cash.
