Canada’s plan is ambitious but the country wants to implement it. There is no alternative to filling the labour market deficit and reviving the country’s dashed economy.
That’s what Canadian Immigration Minister Marco Mendisino told reporters in Ottawa on Friday.
The plan is that the central government will take 4 lakh 1000 new immigrants in 2021, 4 lakh 11 thousand in 2022 and another 4 lakh 21 thousand in 2023. He said Canada needs more staff. And the way to meet that is immigration.
Researcher Robert Falconer at the University of Calgary said in a tweet that if the Canadian government reached their goal, the country’s immigration acceptance in the next three years would be the highest since the record began in 1911.
It is known that in 2021, Canada will accept 2 lakh 32 thousand 500 new immigrants.
People who already have family members can go to 1 lakh 3 thousand 500. Refugees and other protected persons 59,500 and another five and a half thousand immigrants will be accepted for humanitarian reasons.
Canada has been a role model for many years in sheltering asylum seekers seeking asylum and reuniting with family members. However, the country closed the border to most migrants last March to prevent coronary infections.
As of August this year, Canada has sheltered 1,26,425 new immigrants, less than half of the target set for this year.
