The customs authorities of Benapole have collected a fine of Tk 2.25 crore for revenue evasion. As a result, the revenue collection in September of the current financial year has been more than Tk 161 crore as compared to September last year.

On Monday (October 19th), the port’s new commissioner, Azizur Rahman, said he had taken a tough stance in multiple meetings with C&F agents and customs officials who use Benapole port.

According to customs sources, importers and C&F agents involved in revenue evasion are being blacklisted and their shipments are being tested. And those against whom there is no allegation of revenue evasion are being acquitted without any examination through ‘D’ mark.
However, the Benapole port handles trade worth Rs 30,000 crore a year with India. The National Board of Revenue has set a revenue target of Tk 5,600 crore for Benapole Customs House in the current financial year.

According to customs sources, revenue of Tk 998 crore has been collected till July-October of the current 2020-21 financial year. Which is 161 crore more than last year, which is 20.6 percent more. At the same time, revenue of Tk 628 crore was collected from July to October in the last 2019-20 financial year at Benapole Customs House.

Customs Commissioner Azizur Rahman said zero tolerance policy is being followed at Benapole port to prevent revenue evasion. Several irregularities have already taken place. They have been fined 200 percent by paying revenue.
