The 81 students of a batch of a department in Kushtia Islamic University (IU) are in a bad shape due to 5 students and they faces complexity of rules after their failing in exams. Besides, the students of other departments of the same session in the university have gone ahead from this department for about year and a half.

This incident is of the department of management in 2015-16 academic year.

According to department sources, 5 students of the academic year failed the final examination of the third year ahead. Later, they were admitted in the third year again with the 2016-17 academic year. In addition, another student who failed in the 2013-14 academic year was also re-admitted with them. But, meanwhile, new curriculum was added to the department from 2016-17 academic year. In this, they took part in the in-course examination of 60 marks and 30 marks in two vivas under 10 courses in 2 semesters of the year. But 5 students of those two academic years had given in-course examinations of 60 and 30 marks in a viva according to the previous curriculum. In addition, there are five other course discrepancies.

According to the rules of the university, re-admission has to be done by regular students with running batch after completing the examination of those 5 students. But due to the discrepancy in the curriculum, the examination committee had to face the problem. To solve this problem, the examination committee sat in an emergency meeting on January 25, 2020. The meeting decided that it was not possible to take exams of these 5 people with regular batches. As a result, two separate examination committees were formed for 4 students of 2015-16 academic year and one student of 2013-14 academic year.

Extreme jeopardy is seen when these decisions are discussed at the faculty meeting of Business Administration Faculty on 27 February of the same year.

According to source, due to the rules, the five students do not have the opportunity to batch separately. They were asked to continue with regular batches with separate exams.  But the crisis is created because their curriculum, course, examination method is different.

Authorities could not reach a decision as the campus was closed due to Corona.

The issue was discussed at the 118th Academic Council meeting on January 14 about the five students. It was decided to send the matter to the syndicate.

Meanwhile, according to students and department sources, students of other departments of the university’s graduation (honors) 2016-17 academic year are taking part in the final examination of the fourth year. But the students of the same academic year of the management department have not yet passed the third year. They have completed the first semester examination of the third year on October 1, 2019. After that the second semester class was over but the examination was not held. They have been in session jam for about a year and a half. The affected students are in more trouble as the educational institutions are closed due to corona.

Many of the students reported that their classmates in other departments were finishing honors final years.

Morshed Alam, chairman of the examination committee, said the teachers did not lack sincerity. But due to legal complications, it was not possible to take their exams in time.

Professor ASM Sarfaraz Newaz, chairman of the department, said they were waiting for the syndicate. He said that the syndicate meeting is scheduled to be held on February 19.

Acting Registrar of the University Ataur Rahman said the matter would be raised in the syndicate. Hopefully a solution will come.
