The teenage killer of 5-year old child Sanjida’s auntie Sumona of Harinarayanpur village in Kushtia Sadar Upazila has been sent to the Juvenile correction center.

Today, Tuesday (October 20), she was taken to the Juvenile Correctional Center in Bagerhat, said Islamic University Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mostafizur Rahman.

Earlier, police confirmed that the killing took place over altercation between Sumona and Sanjida’s mother on love matter of Sumona and police arrested the girl.

The girl was taken to Kushtia Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court on Monday, the girl pleaded guilty to the murder. The court ordered her sent to a correctional facility. She is an eighth grader at a local school.

Last Sunday afternoon, the teenage aunt killed her niece Sanjida by suffocating her to teach Sanjida’s mother due to her talking talked about Sumona’s love affair. Police recovered Sanjida’s body from an abandoned toilet around 6pm on Sunday (October 18).

Kushtia Superintendent of Police SM Tanvir Arafath said the body was recovered immediately after the incident and sent to Kushtia General Hospital for autopsy. Then Additional Superintendent of Police Mostafizur Rahman and Atiqur Rahman (Sadar Circle) went to the spot. They started working to unravel the mystery of the incident. After 9 hours of continuous work, they were confirmed that the child's own aunt was involved in the murder. She was arrested at night.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Atiqur Rahman said all family members were questioned at home. There is a lot of talk about their daily routine. All the members of the family were behaving normally.

One Akhter Hossain, a microbus driver in the area, told to police around 12pm that he saw a teenager coming out of an abandoned toilet on the side of the field at around 4.30pm on the day sanjida was killed. After receiving this information, Sanjida’s teenager aunt brought to the interrogation.

At one point she confessed to killing the child.

Police claimed that the killer teenager told them that Sanjida’s mother was always abusive about her (teenage) love affair. On the morning of the incident, the girl had an argument with Sanjida’s mother. She planned to kill Sanjid to teach her mother.

That afternoon she went to the abandoned land office next to the house with Sanjida to buy Chanachur. There the two ate Chanachur together. After suffocating and killing the child, she left the body in the bathroom of the abandoned land office and returned home.

Sanjida’s father Sohag Hossain said Sanjida left the house at noon. After that she did not come back and the family members searched around. At one stage he went miking in Harinarayanpur bazar in the afternoon to look for his daughter. 

In the evening, some people in the area reported that the body of the child was lying in an abandoned toilet next to their house, Sohag said.
