Deaths of 3 people have been reported in Kushtia due to alcohol poisoning. They died in the early hours of Wednesday (October 28th) after being admitted to Kushtia General Hospital.
The deceased have been identified as Ripon Kumar Ghosh, 32, son of Abesh Ghosh of Kalibari Bazar in Khoksa upazila, Nitai Biswas, 35, son of late Debendranath Biswas of Kantdah village in Mirpur upazila and Anik Biswas, 21, son of Tapan Biswas of Sadar upazila.
The admission in-charge of Kushtia General Hospital Sanwar Hossain said they all came to the hospital after felt pain in chest. They got died between 5am and 6:30 am while undergoing treatment.
Tapas Kumar Sarkar, resident medical officer (RMO) of the Hospital, said they initially believed they had died of alcohol poisoning. He said they were admitted to the hospital at different times between 12 pm and 3 am.
Some relatives of the victims said they drank alcohol on the occasion of Durga Puja.
Their bodies have been kept in the morgue of the hospital for autopsy.
Kushtia Superintendent of Police SM Tanvir Arafath said police is on investigation of the matter.
“We are checking from where they bought the alcohol and when consumed,” SP said.
