IU VC asks to make master plan on forestry at the campus

Islamic University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Sheikh Abdus Salam has instructed to make a master plan to build up a planned forestry in the university which was needed long ago.

“We need the development of infrastructure at the same time greenery as well. There needs to be a simultaneous combination of development and greening according to the needs and demands of the time,” Vice Chancellor said.

He said if one tree cuts off, three trees should be planted instead there.

Vice-Chancellor shared such view during the exchange of views with the leaders of the journalists’ organizations working in the VC’s conference room at the administration building on Saturday.

He instructed the engineering department of the university to immediately make a master plan to establish a green forestry at the university.

Addressing the reporters present, Sheikh Abdus Salam said the third phase of the mega project is on card in the university where 5 residential halls and 1 academic building with residential facilities for about five thousand students will be constructed.

“We need to run this work considering all related things including the plan submitted as proposal with the mega project.

A new a forestation programme has to be implemented after removing unnecessary establishment and unplanned plants. This will require a planned afforestation programme which has not been done by this university. The Vice-Chancellor insisted on transplanting the required trees from the proposed area instead of cutting down the trees.

He said 26,000 trees have already been planted in the university. More than 4,000 trees are being planted. At that time, he directed the Chief Engineer of the university to take up a mega project to develop planned forestry in the university.

Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mahbubur Rahman, Treasurer Professor. Dr. Alamgir Hossain Bhuiyan, Proctor Professor Dr. Jahangir Hossain, Deputy Director of Public Relations Office Md. Ataul Haque, Deputy Registrar Dr Amanur Aman, leaders of University Press Club, Journalists Association and Reporters Unity were present there.
