In 2020, like other fields, the sports sector of Bangladesh also lost its many stars. Many former stars of sports like football, cricket, hockey and volleyball have passed away in the last year.
After a few years of illness, Golam Rabbani Helal, a former player of national team also of Abahani died on May 30. He was 63. The next day, the news of the death of another former footballer of the national team SM Salauddin came. Nurul Haque Manik, a midfielder of the nineties, passed away on June 14.
Two members of Swadhin Bangla football team have passed away in last year. One is Lutfar Rahman and the other is Nowsheruzzaman.
Nowsheruzzaman, another member of the independent Bengali football team, died on September 21 in ICU of the hospital. He was 72 years old. Not only was he known as a footballer, he also played cricket at the national level for a long time.
Badal Roy, a favorite of the football field, died on 22 November. Badal Roy made his Dhaka football debut in 1987 in a Mohammedan jersey.
Wahiduzzaman Moyna, the only triple hat-trick man in the country, died on June 12. This year, football has lost the country's experienced, popular and discussed referee Abdul Aziz. The former FIFA referee died on October 26 at the age of seven after suffering a heart attack and later coronary heart disease.
Two legendary cricketers have also died this year. One is the country's first left-arm spinner Ramchand Gowala, the other is ASM Farooq. Former cricketer and former national team manager ASM Farooq died on September 17 at the age of 85.
Ehtesham Sultan, one of the country's best hockey stars and a recipient of the National Sports Award, died on August 18. He was a member of the East Pakistan Hockey Team from 1968 to 1970.
Athlete Kazi Zaheda Ali, who played track in the seventies, died on April 30. Karate national team coach Humayun Kabir Jewel died of corona on May 26.
National Volleyball Coach Golam Rasul Mehdi, Organizer and former Secretary of the National Sports Council AHM Samsul Islam, Former President of Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited Abdul Monem Khan, Former President of Kabaddi Federation MP Habibur Rahman Molla Former general secretary Mobinul Islam, sports journalist Abdul Hannan Khan, Mahmudul Hakim Apu and Mostaq Ahmed Khan also included in the list of loss.
