The authorities have opened Darshana-Gede border point to bring the Bangladeshi nationals stranded in India.
Total 11 Bangladeshi nationals have returned home through this check post at 7.30 pm on Monday.
Among them there are 3 women and 8 men.
They were scheduled to return home on Sunday. But they could not due to complications related to the clearance (NOC) of the Bangladesh Embassy in Kolkata.
Meanwhile, when they arrived at the Darshan checkpoint in the evening, they were given health screening and coronavirus tests by the doctors of Damurhuda Upazila Health Complex. A four-member medical team led by Amit Kumar Biswas examined their health. However, the doctor said that none of them had identified the coronavirus.
They have been taken to Chuadanga Technical Training Center (TTC). There they will be in quarantine for 14 days.
According to Darshana immigration sources, the Bangladesh government took the initiative to bring back more than 300 Bangladeshi nationals through the Darshana check post in Chuadanga. All preparations are made for their entry into the country since last Sunday.
Darshana Joynagar check post Immigration in-charge Sub-Inspector (SI) Abdul Alim quoted Sanjeed Kumar, in-charge of Gede check post in India, as saying that 11 Bangladeshi passport holders arrived at Gede international check post on Monday afternoon. They are sent to Bangladesh after completing all the immigration process as they have embassy clearance.
Monira Parveen, convener of the Corona Control and Prevention Subcommittee also additional deputy commissioner (Gen) said the Bangladesh Embassy in Kolkata, India, had sent them a list of 51 clearance names. Of these, 11 have returned to the country.
An unnamed Bangladeshi national, who returned to India, said more than 400 Bangladeshis had been standing in line since morning. He saw that 14 of them had been given clearance till 2 pm.
He added that a severe lockdown is going on in Kolkata. Due to the lockdown, no vehicles are available to travel to the embassy. Everyone is suffering to get NOC in lockdown
